There's really no way to explain it poss. You should have fun while drawing. The act of putting lines on paper, measuring forms and angles, figuring out how exactly to represent something in 2d, it should all be fun.
It's kinda like video games. You want to see the end and hope the end is fun but the real fun is had while you actually play the game and do shit. If you only have fun after you beat the game then you either need to go out and find the fun or try a different hobby

Is Art just another form of escapism? All of this romanticism and idealization of women and nature feels too delusional. There is almost no authenticity. I used to call certain types of artists pretentious but now I'm starting to realize all of art is pretentious and has nothing to do with the persuit of any form of truth.

FUCK YES!!!

This person gets it. Life is boring as fuck and more than not shitty...when I make art I don't care if others like it or have some sort of whimsical experience...it's just some ideas in my head that I want to see with my eyes, interact with and just forget the idea that nothing matters...

If there's atheists, why aren't there arthiests?

Does art really have to be anything after impressionism and accidental splatter paintings? It's all emotional garbage we can't keep in, thus, we project...does it make any difference? Absolutely not...no social movement has ever adopted a piece of visual artwork as a banner. Art doesn't mean anything besides what emotions the artist is feeling.

I'll be the first to say it...not one person on this board is going down in history the way Da Vinci did...they won't ever write books about us, any one of us, but doing art is a nice escape from how the world is...you don't like your world, make anew one.

Does it matter? No, it's just people having fun.

Do you ask a child why they jump in a bouncing castle? More than likely not.

Appreciate art or don't, questioning it is just stupid and won't amount to anything because art is suggestive to whatever the viewer notices most.

>> No.4209268

Romanticism and idealism can also be a model for what reality could be. Art doesn't have to escapism, it can comment on reality and act as an ideal to strive towards.

I'm here for quite some time and from what I see you guys really hate Proko. I don't understand it at all. Most of the hate is caused by his persona during podcasts. Why? Draftsman podcast is really good because there is a "dynamic/chemistry" between Stan and Marshal. It is true that Proko tends to rephrase Mashals sentences to make them sound simpler (that often makes them more difficult to understand), but that's really a minor issue.
Because of that podcast people tend to just hate everything Proko related.
His art (personal preference, i don't care about that part much) and even his courses/video tutorials.
Isn't he one of the best tutors out there? He is known far and wide because of them. I don't think there is anyone who does it in more pleasant/normal way.
Is there something that i cannot see in them, that is wrong? Is there anything bad he teaches?

TLDR: Why do you hate Stan so much?

I don't hate him, I just don't respect much of what he does or see much value in it. He teaches lessons in drawing that he doesn't use personally or can't apply; he's only regurgitating stuff that the audience thinks they need/should hear. Things he's actually good at aren't mysteries to any well-studied artist, and they have little application to beginners who dream of animating, designing, and so forth.

Proko is the art equivalent of new media bloggers who paraphrase the news and ask a rhetorical question at the end. He's the Buzzfeed of art tutoring: over-valued, unoriginal, with an out-sized reach not commensurate with his actual contributions. We can keep applauding his business acumen, but the Arts Institute seems like a successful business too, and we don't have constant arguments over whether those guys are better than the Art Students League of New York.

I dont hate him but I do find him mediocre. It feels like anytime hes communicating with another artist that the other guy simply knows more and its a better person to boot. His stuff is a decent 101 for newbies if they really need video aids but not really past that. At this point I watch his channel to listen to Marshall and get annoyed when proko buts in to spew something stupid while Marshall is telling a story.

Dumb. Although a little caffeine is ok, anything over 200mg a day is pushing it toawrds heart disease territory. Aspartame may give you cancer, too.

Personally, I find if I work for about 4 hours after breakfast, and make sure to set my intentions properly I'll automatically be in the zone for 1h or so in there. After that, I start to lose concentration. It's best for me with no music or anything: you must give full attention so that every stroke is considered maximally, and so you can keep in mind more general goals while drawing, like what exactly you want to achieve with the piece, what exactly is the function of each mark, etc.

If something needs to be laboriously rendered/detailed or soemthing, then music or a podcast can be okay, because you're doing something repetitive and the music distracts you from the slog.

Pls anons, can you share any good tutorials/books/videos/whatever about inking? I need help with both traditional and digital. I just dont understand this shit, when am I supposed to make the line thicker, when it should be thinner, how and where to draw cast shadows, how to draw faces so they dont look like old people. Im really frustrated about this.

I think he means putting a blue layer on the piece you want to ink over to make the lines turn blue, so that easier to see the original blue sketch and your current black ink work.

>> No.4207614

>>4207593
You can do this on photoshop by putting a layer with only blue color on top of your sketch layer. Then set the blue color layer blending option to multiply.

Nothing stupid about asking such questions, maybe I wasn't clear
It's as >>4207601 says. If you're working traditionally you can print it after bluescaling, works just as fine.
That way you can compare your inking to the original's, and there's a lot to grasp there if you have little knowledge about inking. Though don't forget that it won't magically make you understand all about it, you gotta experiment without tracing and with your own stuff too.

Back around 2017 when I was browsing for a portable drawing tablet/pc, I tested every single option I had, and the 2nd gen ipad pro was so far ahead it’s not even funny. The only surface device that wasn’t inferior to a fucking asus vivotab note 8 was the 5th gen with the (then) new stylus, and even then it was ntrig garbage.
Cintiq had “portable” devices in the sense that you could put them in a bag and they would work for an hour or two without a power supply, but they weren’t what I was looking for.
>ice skating
It just feels like painting or using a brush pen, though, I don’t have any problems with it. It also preserves the nib, I haven’t swapped a single nib so far, and my intuos 5 touch would eat through 10-20 nibs in the same period.

I didn’t even know we got photoshop, but it’s around half the desktop subscription, though I have no idea how well it even works.
Not that I care, since procreate does 95% of the things that need to be done, and you have Artstudio pro, Paintstorm and a bunch of photo editing apps you can use to fill in the gap.
Procreate is also due for a big update sometime soon, and they have been closing the gap with every update.
You can also use it as a pen display natively with a Mac, no need for apps.

>>4209618
>gaming laptop
Why.jpg
You will have a self melting laptop that weighs 3kg with a shit-tier screen and useless battery.
There are some laptops with integrated pen displays, but they’re subpar for drawing from what few I got to test.
Depends on your needs, I guess, I know people using HP Z books and the like to work on, but you still need peripherals, and the screens are still fairly small unless you’re prepared to spend the big bucks for 17”.
On the other hand, a good workstation has almost limitless work potential , whereas the ipad pro does 1 productive thing extremely well, but is otherwise mostly a media consumption device with a great screen and surprisingly great speakers

Never had a tablet, is the 12.9inch enough for a main station, to use all day?
What specs should I get? is 64gb enough? Should I get cellular support or only wifi?

>> No.4210037

>>4210009
>12.9
It’s enough and I never had any issues, but I was coming from drawing tablets, so it might take some time to adjust if you’re used to a 27” cintiq or something.
Working with a ref on-screen takes some getting used to, but is also doable.
>specs
2nd gen is working fine for me, though the new one has a better cpu and the pen has buttons. The battery will probably also hold up better a couple years from now. Note that the cpu is a non-factor in 99% of the apps, you’d probably only see a difference when using big complex brushes in paintstorm or something. It might be a factor for photoshop, I haven’t tried it.
>64gb
I got the 256gb one, and 150 of those are movies, comics and PDFs, Procreate itself only takes up a couple of gbs. The 2tb icloud plan is around 10 dollars a month, so I keep all my large files there.
I came to to use it as my primary device and even then I would be fine with 64gb simply by not hoarding media I don’t actually consume, if you just need it for drawing, browsing and reading, 64gb is likely more than enough.
>cellular
I got it, but I never used it. It takes one press of a button to share my phone’s internet connection for some reason, and I can just airdrop whatever file needs sending to my phone if I really need to upload something right fucking then. I guess there are instances where it might come in handy, but I personally never needed it.

I unironically feel this way too. I've tried a few screen tablets but always go back to my good old Intuos 5. I can kinda understand wanting a screen tablet when I first started drawing digitally, it was a bit of a process getting used to the whole hand-eye thing, but now it's second nature.

>>4207533
Good god, that thing... I actually had a larger version of that when I first started! After I got my Intuos I realized how awful the Genius tablet actually was. Just like I realized how awful SAI was for line art after I got Clip Studio Paint (but it's still great for sketching and simple coloring). So can't say I agree with you there, anon.

yes

if you look at all the art movements across time they all have one thing in commune, a bunch of artists created art in the same time period, in the same general geographic region, in that style and it was hard to tell which one was made by which one unless it was made by a trend setter or you consume that art

all art movements had some leading artists, some time periods, some regions that were the hearth of the movement. Also, lots of art movements where not considered real art while they lived but after the fact

if an artist does not create copycats, and he is not a copycat of another artist then he is not part of an art movement, no matter how acclaimed he is

anime is just an art movement created and centralized in japan in the last century, and it will last as long the anime industry can sustain itself, or atleast as long as japan sustain it
