Because 'dwarfs' (not 'dwarves') in my setting were named after the mythological dwarf, they're not the same thing. The predominant Dwarfs in the area of my setting that the game takes place in are all crazy Russians, Finns, or (Carolean) Swedes instead.
>My elves are anything other than elegant and arrogant androgynous hippies.
Because 'elves' in my setting were named after the mythological elf, they are not fae creatures. They are basically the British, though.
>The primary religion of my setting is anything other than an allegory for Christianity?
The primary religion of my setting is literally Christianity, because angels which are giant floating rings of eyes, mouths, and wings of fire are quite different than what people expect and Christianity is ripe with entities that are rarely touched upon.

Horrific Experiments Edition

>What is Genesys?
Released in November 2017, Genesys is a pen-and-paper generic RPG system and toolkit by Fantasy Flight Games, using a refined version of the system presented by their Star Wars RPGs (Edge of the Empire, Age of Rebellion, Force and Destiny). Its central mechanic is the Narrative Dice System, using pools made of specialized dice to create narrative results. The intention is for the system to be a highly flexible narrative system, adaptable to most any conceivable setting and premise.

>The Expanded Player's Guide and official GM screen will release later this year; a setting splat for Keyforge should see release in Q2 2020
>The Genesys Foundry is open for business, an initiative allowing you to sell your fanmade hack(s) on DriveThruRPG

>Where can I find the books?
Check the Online Extras pastebin below. The core book is the only mandatory book.

the only female player I played with enough to judge is entirely unnoteworthy except for the fact that she wanted to play a male character but everyone else assumed her character was female and she didn't correct us until like 4 sessions in

>> No.69458519

Have played with my dad's work friends two of which are women. One of them was the GM. Wasn't an amazing GM but still. Was fun. It's different playing with boomers, in a good way.

2nd instance (or 3rd I guess) was my friend's girlfriend. She played with us on and off. Might be rejoining us soon. Tried to let her friend join whom she also wanted me to date. Other players said no. She stopped playing for a bit but will be rejoining us soon apparently. She also brought a few other friends who all quit eventually.

And that same friend brought one of his own work friends who was a girl, apparently in a committed relationship. She joined my political-intrigue-steampunk-fantasy game and they spent like 2 hours teaching her to make a character. I wanted to say "please just let her pick her fucking spells she said she wants to play a witch-like character she doesn't care what her fucking Agility is" but didn't cause I didn't want to look like I was calling her stupid. Which I wasn't, they were just overwhelming her. Game started and she was introduced as a rescued hostage on a pirate ship whose captain (the bastard daughter of a nobleman who'd been attacking his ships in revenge for him abandoning her) and she found a magic ring snooping around. Then just sat back and followed the story. When she left she said I was a really good storyteller and smiled at me. She was pretty. I didn't stare at her or anything. Nor did anyone else in my group. We all smelled fine. But the next week she didn't come back, or the week after. Learned later she found all the in-character and roleplaying a bit intimidating. I felt bad, and still doubt that was the real reason, but maybe it was, as she was kind of shy. Still feel to this day like I stepped on a small flower just starting to grow. Whatever. We haven't played that campaign since since we rotate through several and we kept waiting for her to come back. But we will get back to it soon.

Actually, if you went monk instead of barbarian, you can reliably get 4 attacks per turn, each stacking hunter’s mark and swarm.
So a 5th level monk / 3rd level ranger can do 4d6 + 4d6 + 4d6 + (dex x 4) a round. That’s 92 maximum damage for a level 9 character. Damn.
Also yes I’m replying to my own posts, just doing some theory crafting.

The best I can do is share the 7TV 2E rules with you. Otherworld is a bit diffierent, being based on 7TV 1E, but the games are relatively close in gameplay. The big differences is Otherworld has round by round initiative and Wandering Monsters, and doesn't have Countdown Cards. Otherworld does have Gadgets, it just calls them magic items.

Lovecraft wrapped his monsters up in religious language because religion was still a fundamental basis for how people understood nature and physical reality. So much revolved around it. Nowadays, even extreme fundamentalists know the can turn with great enthusiasm to science textbooks for answers to questions about how the universe works and that's a good thing!

Instead, I would capture the feelings of alienation and dread brought about by modern politics. The feeling you have when you realize that narrative now matters more than fact and that the weirdest fucking strawman someone dreams up to undermine their opponents is very real and stalking the halls of power. Capture the feeling of upheaval and dread that emerges when the ideas you were taught are the foundation of your society are called into question by a surprisingly large number of strangers, and that they may be right to do so. Capture the uncomfortable realization that your world has no place for you, and that same world may not even exist for much longer. I used to feel adrift in my life, but now I'm drowning, miserable and alone while others look on and openly cheer for the rupturing of my lungs. At home, at work, in traffic, not a day goes by that I don't think about suicide, and everything everyone tells me makes it sound more appealing.

But, like, don't use tentacles or fish parts to make it seem alien. That's way overplayed.

I need ideas for a Pantheon of evil gods. Here are a few I have.

The Builder is the goddess of Wisdom. She creates elaborate dungeons full of treasure in order to lure foolish adventures in so her demons can kill them.

The Father is the god of life. He created all of the monsters in my setting.

The Warrior is the god of war (obviously). He was too powerful so the other gods bound his soul into a set of weapons, jewelry and armor. If it is all assembled again he will be released again to usher the apocalypse.

Any other ideas?

The Builder idea is cool as fuck. What inspired that?

>> No.69453013

Basically evil parodies of the Greek Gods.
The Warrior: Ares
The Builder: Athena
The Father: Kronos
The Hunter: Artemis/Hades

>> No.69453030

I wanted an excuse for my setting to have tons of dungeons for the heroes to loot. I thought it would be funny if the dungeons were literally set up to lure adventures to them.

>> No.69453050

God of secrets, but he's more of a true-neutral that gets on all the meetings with the other evil gods.

I like it.

Honestly, playable fantasy races are the problem in general. I think that fantasy races should be treated like the mutants in the Metro series. Things to be killed, things to be feared and kept at a distance, rarely interacted with.

>> No.69452466

You're correct. All races should be purely human. At best there could be a few unobtrusive outliers, or non-humans as plot devices.

It's always the same "you hate fun" and "gay OP" or "you must be SOO fun at the table" responses, Jesus. Whether it's Critical Role, tumblr character art or anti-firbolg threads.

My brother was GMing once and put in an oversexed female NPC designed to bait one of the players. Turns out he'd already made his character gay in his backstory. A good laugh.

Speaking of Sultans...

Probably this female crusader (a former Fighter/Cleric) who was captured during, well, a Crusade into the exotic lands of the East. After she was sufficiently broken, she was taken into the Sultan's harem and is now his devoted lover. She's converted from her warrior-god to a goddess of celebration / pleasure.

While she's still a great fighter and a powerful cleric, her greatest fear is that some of the survivors of the crusade will someday identify her. If they knew she was still alive, the shame would be too great to bear.

Curiously, it was the male PCs (including me!) who wanted to rescue her and the female PCs who didn't. We were eventually overruled, and as far as I know she was there when the campaign ended, resigned to her new role.

You can't go home again.

This is why Imperial Armour was better, the Imperium/Space Marines could and would get their shit pushed in. Named character plot armour wasn't bogging it down either, Inquisitor Lok got a model and got killed in the same expansion. Made for some actually interesting narratives.

I like the washed-out style of the right one, especially the scraped-up armour.
