You should pick it up if you haven't, it's not like any other children's book out there. I've read the original as well as the finnish and english translations, the english version sucks ass but that's what you get for being a monolingual pleb.

Imagine a future where a "GM bot" is invented, aka a computer application capable of running any TTRPG system just as well as a human could, if not better thanks to perfect memory and instant calculations. (Skip the block of greentext if you're not concerned with the specifics I'm thinking of)

>An app called something like "GMbot.exe" is invented
>It can be taught any game system through installation files
>It can be tweaked to follow custom house rules over official ones
>It would never misuse rules, unless deliberately tweaked to make room for stuff like the "rule of cool"
>Based on keyword inputs inserted by a user, it can automatically generate complex campaigns/worlds with intricate storylines and potential plot-hooks full of twists and tension. Anything not specified would be randomly created based on if it fits
>Unlike in videogames, player desicion making is still as limitless as has always been in TTRPGS
>Its elaborate adaptive AI always has a sensible outcome/response for any of the actions the players take and constantly adapts/caters the story's direction to fit the group's playstyle
>It picks up on what players say/want to do either via listening to what they say, or through letting players type/interact with whatever computer the app is run on.
>It can deepfake any voice it has sufficient recording data of, and comes prepackaged with voices ranging from diverse humans of different accents/languages/ages to alien/monster sounding ones, letting it perfectly voice-act any character it needs to
>It is eventually made so affordable (if not free) that everyone has access to the application
>Human GMs are largely made redundant (at least for typical games)

Putting aside how improbable/impossible it would be for something like this to ever exist, what is your take on it? Would it permanently improve those kinds of role playing games, or would it suck all the magic and fun out of collabarative storytelling forever?

Ok, you've got a future where you can have AI pretend to people to an extent that they can interact believably enough with humans. 90% of the service industry is out of a job, the economy is in the shitter, and the world is probably unrecognisable by this point.

What was that about GMbots again?

Only way to have an AI replacement for a human GM would be to have an AI so advanced that it is, for all intents and purposes, human. Using them as slave labor would be profoundly unethical at that point, and if you can't use AI as slaves then there's no reason to have an AI in the first place.

Many of us would agree we're tired of dragons and knights and local lords and the standard tropes of places with names like "Ashandia" and "Winter's Pauldron."

I think we've wrung every bit of use out of Tolkien's tropes. Elves and orcs and gnomes and ancient evils lying in wait.

What's the next kickstart to the genre? What does it need? Where is fantasy headed?

And this is why a lot of things suck. The best things, be it art, books, movies RPGs are the ones made to satisfy the creator and then offered up as, "Here I like this, you might also like this" Depending on subjective taste you might consider some of these the worst as well. But at least its honest. Things created specifically to target a market are at best mediocre.

There were tons released on snes/n64/ps1 in japan, although the only western one I can think of is shogi master for dos.
For more modern stuff, there's shogi wars (very popular app which can be accessed through browser), although the app is mostly for playing against other people. Most modern software, though, is made for either analyzing games(either manually or with an engine), or for playing games between two engines. I do think actual shogi games do still get made (I remember one being announced for switch) but they're mostly console and Japan exclusive.

Kanji aren't really that bad desu. There are only eight, and most of them are fairly distinct from one another. The emperor did this because he knew the chaos gods would just resurrect a forcibly twisted horus/spend eternity torturing him for his failure otherwise. It was a mercy.

Welcome to /wbg/, the official thread for the discussion of in-progress settings for traditional games.

Here is where you go to flesh out the details of your worlds such as lore, factions, magic and ecosystems. You can also post maps for your settings, as well as any relevant art (either created by you or used as inspiration for your work). Please remember that replying to other posters is what keeps the thread alive, not dumping walls of text.

Official Discord: https://discord.gg/yrp9saR

Resources for Newfags: https://sites.google.com/view/wbgeneral/

Previous Thread: >>69382352

Setting prompts:
>Tell us about the most dangerous entity or type of entity in your setting. This doesn't have to be an "enemy" or even a villain, but it certainly can be.
>What kind of motivations drive villains/enemies in your setting? Do they believe they are justified (or are they, in your opinion, justified), or are they evil for the sake of it?
>What kind of motivations, APART from "stopping villains," drive heroes in your setting?

Methodology prompts:
>How important is it to justify or work around "heroic" figures killing their foes, and what are some ways to do so?
>What is the one thing you would most like to see other worldbuilders doing MORE of, and why?

>In same vein, actually showing interest in other people's work is very suspicious on /tg/. We only scream our own ideas. Listening to others is autistic.
Everyone here is also autistic though. Personally I like reading about other people's ideas and helping them out with them (or just pointing out inconsistencies, which is also helping but it's fun because it's more antagonistic), so I could understand someone genuinely doing the same, but it seems pointless to ask the same group of people the same questions every day, and malignant to actively overrun a thread or an entire board with that garbage.

>>69456807
They've put their exact verbatim questions in the /wbg/ OP before (eg the "how would you justify amazons" (paraphrasing) question that was getting posted once per-thread here w/ the same image of loli wonder woman and as its own threads) so even if they're bot-assisted it's a real person doing it, at least to some degree. They got indignant when I called them out on that particular one too, like they didn't understand what they did wrong.

There's some stuff in the OP site but I don't know of anything that isn't an online tool. Well, there's one idea I had several threads ago and never looked into more- Crusader Kings has support for most of the shit people want to record for worldbuilding, like custom maps and family trees, and is very mod-friendly, so buying or otherwise acquiring it and then modding it might make it a good tool despite the fact it's intended to be a game.

Seriously, look at this shit
>I don't doubt that design to a certain extent shapes the behavioral patterns and the choices role-players make, but I find that designers more often than not overrate their own presence at the table in a rather self-aggrandizing way. There is a famous, perhaps dubious sentiment surrounding Vampire The Masquerade - that the games mechanics seemed so contrary to the intended playstyle of the game that it is a wonder anyone played it at all. You'd wonder if that would make these creators question the primacy of game design, or find a separate explanation for why thousands of people still play that game to this day? Instead, they conclude that it is the players who are wrong, and are merely ignorant of the fun they could be having.
Have you ever met any designer who actually thought like this? My experience of any designer when shown people having fun with their design (in any way) has been delight.

>With such a hands-off approach to gaming, it can become rather boring for the designer. After all, if the role of design is minimized, then what is the fun in it? Well, even in minimalist design, the text and the presentation is incredibly important for the table. Remember what we said about aesthetics and framing being a determining factor to play? Do that. That's the spice.
Because mechanical design cannot be aesthetics even though half of the old rules we talk about ITT are about interpreting mechanical design as aesthetics.

There's also a fucking hilarious twitter thread rejecting the idea of playtesting:

twitter.com/infinite_mao/status/1196164484353740800

It's fucking something when video game devs have a better grasp of narrative and game mechanics and respect for the players than whatever fascist design demon you have cooked up in your head to make TTRPGs (and ofc very distinct from *you*, the Real Designer).

Why has God cursed me with such a community?

>Do you think we'll get rules for Nuns with Guns,
That much is confirmed. Whats unclear is if the KT release is coming out with the Battle Box or the Full Release, and how it'll be distributed.
My understanding of the Battle Box is that its fairly monobuild, so if thats the case I kinda hope they do wait for the full release so we don't get a repeat of Starstriders. Might be wrong though, haven't been paying to much attention to the actual model related stuff, as I have all my old ones. Theres obviously also the worry that i'll be as half assed as Kroot was.
> and what do think they would play like?
Exactly as you'd expect - a mix between Marines and Guard. BS3+, S3 and 3+ means probably ~10pt base models (Comparable to Scouts, bit more than Scions, bit cheaper than Tac marines). You could fit 7 models with regular special weapons if they have the gunner slots for it, and like Guard, AoF will help them be flexible and powerful. Orders as Subfactions, Convictions as Combat Drugs.
Repentia and Flagies will give it some interesting variety to distance them from AM and SM. Repentia are basically as Glassy as Glass Cannons can go without being Grots but if they keep the Eviscerator stats, they'll be able to hit hard so I don't think they'll quite be chaff, but some ~7pt models will be help the numbers and they'll be tactically fun, trying to keep them alive to get close. Basically the only thing stopping flamers from being an auto-kill is the injury roll though. So they'll hurt. Flagies will probably be overpriced.
Canoness is obviously the obligatory Commander.

That's it. I'm sick of all this "stale old copypasta" bullshit that's going on in 4chan right now. Masterwork Bastard Sword copypasta deserves much better than that. Much, much better than that.

I should know what I'm talking about. I myself wrote a genuine copypasta edit in /tg/ after 250 posts (that's about 3 days on the board) and have been practicing with it for almost 2 years now. I can even make cynical 4chan nerds rage with my copypasta.

4chan trolls spend years working on a single copypasta and repost it up to a million times to produce the finest greentext known to mankind.

Masterwork Bastard Sword threads are thrice as long as Flare threads and thrice as annoying for that matter too. Any thread furries can ruin, a Masterwork Bastard Sword edit can ruin better. I'm pretty sure a Bastard Sword pasta could easily bisect a 3.5E versus 4E thread with a simple sage.

Ever wonder why moderators never deleted any Masterwork Bastard Sword thread? That's right, they were too scared to fight the disciplined trolls and their copypasta of destruction. Even when /tg/ was good, Anonymous saged the threads with the bastard sword copypasta first because their trolling power was feared and respected.

So what am I saying? Masterwork Bastard Sword is simply the best copypasta that 4chan has ever seen, and thus, require better recognition on 4chan. Here is the stat block I propose:

(Masterwork Copypasta) All trolls on the thread get +5 to rage checks, thread cannot be saged.

tl;dr = Bastard Sword pasta needs to be more effective on 4chan, see my new stat block.
